How Institute Quotas Work in JoSAA
Understanding seat allocation rules across IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
All India (AI) Quota
Open to candidates from all states and union territories without domicile restriction. Applied across all 23 IITs, all 26 IIITs, and central GFTIs.
Home State (HS) Quota
Reserves ~50% of seats at each NIT for candidates whose Class 12 examination state matches the state where the NIT is situated. Typically offers higher closing rank margins.
Other State (OS) Quota
Applies to the remaining ~50% of seats at each NIT for candidates coming from outside the institute's home state. Competed on a nationwide rank basis.
